Nanzenji Temple
"Nanzenji Temple, whose spacious grounds are located at the
base of Kyoto's
forested Higashiyama mountains, is one of the most important Zen temples in all of
Japan. It is the head temple of one of the schools within the Rinzai sect
of Japanese Zen
Buddhism and includes multiple subtemples, that make the
already large complex of temple buildings even larger." [ref: japan-guide.com]

<K> The brick-made waterway bridge that is very much photographed by tourist. You should be creative on your shots to hide tourists or come here early otherwise. |
After Eikando Temple, we headed to Nanzenji Temple. The temple is just a 10-minute walk from Eikando Temple. Along the way you'll get to see the peaceful neighborhood and pass by food stalls selling Takoyakis. Walking to Nanzenji Temple was fun as we get along with other tourists enjoying the narrow but very clean streets.
The temple is grandiose. From Sanmon Gate to the Nanzenji Temple itself, the sight is really captivating. It made us wonder how they built these temples so intricate and marvelous. The ground is wide and filled with beautiful maple trees. The catch here - it is really crowded.
A further walk ahead, you can find the famous brick-made waterway bridge here that is most photographed among tourists.

<R> Us striking our fabulous poses. lol. |
<R> The Nanzenji Temple is quite busy during afternoon. |
<R> The temple is stunning up close. The intricate details of walls and roof left us in awe. |
<R> It is quite amazing to see the leaves' transition from green to red. |
<R> Brick work is amazing to see. |
<R> Maple trees are everywhere that makes this place picturesque. |
After a long walk, we started to get a bit exhausted. Fortunately, because the ground is so massive, it was still possible for us to find some place quiet where we relaxed. Being under the golden maple trees as the cold wind blew is quite an experience you get from Kyoto. It was almost late afternoon so we headed to our last stop which is, Yasaka Shrine.
